A short time from now, in a land not far away, the first humanoid robot is set to get its space legs. Well, not exactly space *legs*, because the robot will not have its lower half at all – and would be more like a mannequin torso.
Christened Robonaut 2, the humanoid robot is to be launched on my favourite Space Shuttle Discovery on its final mission. When I say ‘humanoid’, just don’t imagine a T-1000, think more of a hybrid between C-3PO and RoboCop.
The ‘words’ are mine and I don’t think he can speak, but he has both a ‘Facebook’ and ‘Twitter’ presence. His elder sibling R 1 was a NASA – DARPA collaboration while R 2 is GM funded and built.
BTW Discovery is my favourite shuttle not only because ofits her ‘orbiter fleet leader’ status, but because she was the ‘Return To Flight’ shuttle – all 3 times.
What NASA plan to do is to land a Robonaut on Moon in 1000 days – Project M. Here is a concept animation of Project M.
My Mischievous half murmurs, ‘Bah! What ever they do, can they beat our own Robot – Enthiran?’ – did it in two years too.

ROFL myself. Mebbe the Indian robonaut 'somaskand' will carry 'enthiran's face! ROFL - imagine rajini lookalike dancing on the moon yuck
When rajinis look alike robo lands on moon :D it wont dance on the moon ... the moon will start dancing around rajini :P thats the power of rajani !!
